do you have DNS set up proberly?

try to put the hostname and the ip from the remote workstation
in the local /etc/hosts file from the linux box.
But make sure that your local /etc/host.conf has an entry like this:

order host,bind

before you try that.

It seems to be your dns setup if that works.
