Yes, Paul, it is the isrp_even:4 error message that is the problem here..

I'm using RedHat 5.0 which is linux Kernel version 2.0.32... 

I'm running on a very vacant network.. (and one of our folks here thinks
that this may be part of the problem.. I've got one linux box, and a printer..
one theory is that the net is having a beaconing problem .. and suggests
another host in the ring.. I haven't done this yet.)

I'm using the Madge Blue+ ISA PnP cards.. and they do connect to the net.. 
and actually transfer data to the printer.. but with the above error.

P.S. The card does not start at all when it's "by itself on the MAU".. it 
gets an error immediately...
